Sculptura a aparut din necessitate, din nevoia de a exprima mai bine mediul inconjurator; ulterior aceasta a capatat o forma artistica. Artistii vechi au gasit in sculptura o descatusare din cele 2 dimensiuni ale picturii si au gasit o noua cale in abordarea unei a 3-a, si anume spatialitatea, volumul.
Prin sculptura corpurile puteau fi reprezentate de jur imprejur, mai mult, o data cu trecerea anilor, sculptura devenise un domeniu artistic nou si pentru a ajunge sa sculptezi trebuia sa urmezi, ceea ce am numi noi astazi, un curs.
